The Role
We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to own accounting operations across AP, AR, billing, collections, and cash at a high-growth US company, working remotely from Malaysia.
You will turn accounting operations into a reliable engine rather than a recurring fire drill, keeping cash moving, subledgers clean, and the general ledger accurate at month-end.
What You'll Own
- AP and AR. Own end-to-end AP and AR workflows, including billing, collections, vendor payments, and cash application.
- Subledgers. Maintain accurate subledgers and ensure they integrate cleanly with the general ledger.
- Cash visibility. Prepare cash reporting and short-term cash visibility for finance leadership.
- Exceptions. Resolve aging, payment, and reconciliation issues directly with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Close support. Support month-end close through cut-off reviews, accruals, reconciliations, and flux explanations.
- Controls and process. Design practical controls and procedures that reduce leakage and manual rework, including where AI and automation can help.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years in accounting operations, controllership, or a senior accounting role
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, cut-off, cash application, AP/AR reconciliations, and working capital
- US GAAP experience, or strong MFRS or IFRS experience with exposure to US clients or entities
- Experience with tools such as NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Ramp, Tipalti, or Stripe
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
- Strong written and spoken English for daily work with US teams
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification
Preferred
- Chartered Accountant (MIA), ACCA, CIMA, MICPA, US CPA, or equivalent (completed or in progress)
- Experience using AI tools in accounting workflows, with the judgment to review and correct AI-generated output
- Experience supporting US customers, vendors, or entities
- Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed company
Who This Role Is For
An accountant who takes pride in a clean aging report, follows every exception through to resolution, and improves the process so the same issue does not come back.

About MAVI
MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. Founded in 2023 and backed by a $4 million seed round led by Harlem Capital, MAVI was recently featured in TechCrunch.
Our professionals join in-house finance teams in full-time, long-term roles, not short-term projects. The companies we work with range from venture- and PE-backed businesses to public companies and CFO advisory firms, including Athena Club, MotherDuck, and Within.
The work centers on judgment. As AI takes over more transactional accounting, the people who review the output, question it, and own the result matter more than ever. MAVI professionals work alongside US finance leaders, using AI tools to do more and applying the judgment to catch what those tools get wrong. At one client, an AR dashboard now used across the organization was built almost entirely by MAVI talent.
We stay involved throughout, from role alignment and interview preparation to onboarding and long-term career development.
