The Role
We are seeking a Revenue Accounting Manager to lead revenue accounting for a high-growth US company with complex products and contracts, working remotely from South Africa.
You will translate ASC 606 requirements into accurate schedules, defensible conclusions, and processes that scale. You will review the work of others, and partner with Sales, Legal, Billing, and FP&A on how deals are structured before they are signed.
What You'll Own
- Revenue recognition. Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 across subscriptions, services, usage-based arrangements, and other complex revenue streams.
- Contract assessment. Review customer contracts for performance obligations, variable consideration, modifications, and timing of recognition.
- Revenue schedules. Maintain deferred, unbilled, and accrued revenue schedules and reconcile them to the general ledger.
- Technical memos. Prepare technical accounting documentation and audit-ready support for material or unusual arrangements.
- Deal partnership. Advise Sales, Legal, Billing, and FP&A on the revenue implications of deal structure.
- Review and process. Review revenue entries prepared by others, and improve contract-to-revenue processes, system logic, and controls.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including substantial hands-on revenue accounting ownership
- Direct practical experience applying US GAAP and ASC 606
- Experience reviewing or guiding the work of other accountants
- Experience with SaaS, subscription, healthcare, marketplace, fintech, or other contract-driven revenue models
- Experience with a major ERP or billing system, such as NetSuite, Zuora, Salesforce, Stripe, or Chargebee
- Strong written and spoken English, with the confidence to challenge commercial assumptions constructively
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification
Preferred
- CA(SA) (SAICA), ACCA, CIMA, US CPA, or equivalent
- Experience using AI tools in accounting workflows, with the judgment to review and correct AI-generated output
- Big 4 technical accounting or revenue advisory experience
- Experience implementing or improving revenue automation in an ERP or billing platform
Who This Role Is For
A revenue specialist who has moved beyond preparing schedules and wants to own the conclusions, and who escalates with a recommendation rather than only a problem.

About MAVI
MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. Founded in 2023 and backed by a $4 million seed round led by Harlem Capital, MAVI was recently featured in TechCrunch.
Our professionals join in-house finance teams in full-time, long-term roles, not short-term projects. The companies we work with range from venture- and PE-backed businesses to public companies and CFO advisory firms, including Athena Club, MotherDuck, and Within.
The work centers on judgment. As AI takes over more transactional accounting, the people who review the output, question it, and own the result matter more than ever. MAVI professionals work alongside US finance leaders, using AI tools to do more and applying the judgment to catch what those tools get wrong. At one client, an AR dashboard now used across the organization was built almost entirely by MAVI talent.
We stay involved throughout, from role alignment and interview preparation to onboarding and long-term career development.
